Wednesday, June 15th at 9pm
The Nate Lepine 5 will be performing Clifford Jordan & John Gilmore's Blowing in From Chicago, released on Blue Note in 1957.

ALBUM BACKGROUND:
"Clifford Jordan & John Gilmore's "Blowing In From Chicago" is a classic hard bop session by two windy city greats. This session from March 1957 features the one time rhythm section of the Jazz Messengers -- Horace Silver, Curly Russell and Art Blakey - joining the two tenor saxophonists, Jordan and Gilmore. Despite the fact that these two gentlemen play the same instrument, their sounds are quite different and distinct. While Gilmore's hard sound is almost alto-like, Jordan's tone is mellower and his pitch lower.

"Blowing In From Chicago" begins with the hard swinging "Status Quo" followed by "Bo-Till", which is marked by Blakey's latin-flavored opening flourishes. Gigi Gryce's "Blue Lights" is highlighted by a fantastic rhythm trio interplay during Silver's piano solo, while "Billie's Bounce" is plenty bouncy thanks to Art's drumming. The album's last two tracks, "Evil Eye" and "Everywhere," are smooth, easy-going numbers, and a perfect conclusion to this fine recording." - Michael Brad Richman

Wednesday, May 25th at 9pm
The Fareed Haque Quartet will be performing Chick Corea's Touchstone album from 1982.

ALBUM BACKGROUND:
Chick’s love of Flamenco music has been a huge influence throughout his career, and it reached one of its peaks on the album Touchstone. Featuring acoustic and electric music intertwining beautifully throughout, the album features the legendary guitarist Paco de Lucia, along with leading lights of Latin music Carles Benavent, Don Alias and Alex Acuña. The writing is some of Chick’s most diverse and inspired, providing a perfect template for the epic flights of these virtuosos. For the aptly titled “Compadres,” Chick reunites the classic lineup of Return to Forever: Chick, Al di Meola, Stanley Clarke and Lenny White. - chickcorea.com
