Wednesday, August 21st at 8pm: The Jazz Record Art Collective is proud to present Neil Carson’s Day-Glo Freaks performing TWO Steely Dan albums in one night, featuring "Countdown To Ecstasy", released in 1973 and "Aja", released into 1977. ALBUM BACKGROUND: "Countdown To Ecstasy is a riskier album, musically speaking, than its predecessor. Each of its eight songs have sophisticated, jazz-inflected interludes. Countdown to Ecstasy is the only time Steely Dan played it relatively straight, and its eight songs are rich with either musical or lyrical detail that their album rock or art rock contemporaries couldn't hope to match." With Aja, Walter Becker and Donald Fagen's obsession with sonic detail and fascination with composition reached new heights. A coolly textured and immaculately produced collection of sophisticated jazz-rock, Aja has none of the overt cynicism or self-consciously challenging music that distinguished previous Steely Dan records. Instead, it's a measured and textured album, filled with subtle melodies and accomplished, jazzy solos that blend easily into the lush instrumental backdrops.” -Stephen Thomas Erlewine PERFORMANCES BY: Neil Carson - Alto Sax, Vocals, Arrangements Molly Parlier - Vocals Kathryn Lachey - Vocals Constantine Alexander - Trumpet Corbin Andrick - Tenor Sax Jeff Livorsi - Trombone Dan Burke - Bari Sax Zoey Witz - Guitar Brandon Hunt - Guitar Paul Mutzabaugh - Keyboards, Guitar Andrew Lawrence - Keyboard Andrew Vogt - Bass Zack Marks - Drums Jonathan Marks - Percussion ***PLEASE NOTE*** Doors open at 7:30pm.
