Thursday, September 27th at 8:30pm & 11pm: The Jazz Record Art Collective is teaming up with WDCB Radio to present the Chad McCullough Sextet performing Miles Davis’s "Kind of Blue", released in 1959. **There will be 2 performances of this show, the first beginning at 8:30pm and second beginning at 11pm** ALBUM BACKGROUND: “Kind of Blue is regarded by many critics as the greatest jazz record, Davis's masterpiece, and one of the best albums of all time. Its influence on music, including jazz, rock, and classical genres, has led writers to also deem it one of the most influential albums ever recorded. The album featured Davis' ensemble sextet consisting of saxophonists John Coltrane and Julian "Cannonball" Adderley, pianist Wynton Kelly, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Jimmy Cobb, with former band pianist Bill Evans appearing on most of the tracks in place of Kelly. In part owing to the entry of Evans into the sextet during 1958, Davis followed up on the modal experimentations of Milestones by basing Kind of Blue entirely on modality, in contrast to his earlier work with the hard bop style of jazz. Though precise figures have been disputed, Kind of Blue has been described by many music writers not only as Davis's best-selling album, but as the best-selling jazz record of all time.” ~Wikipedia PERFORMANCES BY: Chad McCullough - Trumpet Geof Bradfield - Tenor Scott Burns - Alto Rob Clearfield - Piano Christian Dillingham - Bass Makaya McCraven - Drums ADMISSION & LOCATION: $10 cover or $5 w/ student ID First show: Doors open at 8pm.
